Sept. 19, 2009 – Software Freedom Day 09 was celebrated at my Alma Mater, Systems Plus College Foundation (SPCF) at the IT Building Theatre. Being an OJT at our department’s office (CITE), me and my fellow OJT taker was required to help out and assist during the event (although I can’t really remember anything we did to help out, all I know was during the buzz and fuss of those at the registration, we were at the coffee shop, drinking a cup of hot coffee! =D). Anyways, by the time we got to the theatre, the main purpose of the event was being introduced. Afterwards, our Dean, Prof. Grace Fabros-Tyler gave the guests an insight of SPCF and the new IT Building. Well, afterwards, we got out of the the theatre to go around the other venues for the talks, which happen to be starting at 1:00 pm yet. I also decided to sign up for the PHP Programming Competition, which I joined just for mere enjoyment. And boy! It sure was more than just for fun! =D
Anyway, we spent some time at the mall, had lunch and strolled around. Comes 1pm, we headed back to school. Turns out, competition starts at 1:30 yet. So we decided to go to the library while we wait for the time.
Finally, 1:30 strikes, we head back to the laboratories, and find out that other speakers are having their plenary sessions already. Me, and a few of my classmates, who also joined the programming competition went straight to the laboratory where the competition as well. To our surprise, all of us know each other, since we’ve been classmates at some point. And, to add to that, I was the only gal in there. Cool! =D And so we thought it was just going to be a friendly competition. Definitely just for the heck of fun. The officiators of the event were very friendly, and we got to learn more stuff before the competition proper, which is really cool! It was just like a lesson at school, as we tried out a sample problem before actually proceeding to the competition proper. A few minutes after we started, finally, 2 other competitors from other schools joined in. At least, we have other competitors for added tension. Haha.
The questions ranged from easiest to toughest. Well, actually, they weren’t tough. It’s just that time pressure keeps you from thinking more out of the box. I nearly had the first question, except I lacked a code segment. Which is why I got 2nd for the first set of points. “It’s okay, there are other questions, I can catch up,” I said to myself. I moved on question after question, finding one that I could finish quickly. True enough, I found a question which converted a certain number to binary, hex, and octal, and fortunately found a function readily available on the net. “Nice!” is what I thought. Quickly, I highlighted the code segment, and with my quick fingers, Ctrl-C -> Alt-Tab -> Ctrl V, and added a few more codes to finish it up. When I was raising my hand for me to get the points, too bad the officiator was already checking another person’s work! Well, I did not know he was having his work checked already. Coz by the time they got to me, and checked my work and gave me 2pts, they had a mistake, and I thought I was already leading. After a while, they changed it, realized they had a mistake, and changed the rank. Well, anyways, that was okay, so I tried solving another one, but then, time was up, and we scores were finalized.
Boy, was I surprised to find out I got 2nd place! Haha. If I just got the 2nd problem first, I got 1st place, but then the other competitor was ahead of me by just seconds! But then, it was still cool since I never expected I’d rank on the competition. After all, I joined for fun and experience. =D And winning was a plus! =D
Afterwards, all participants and winners were asked to go straight to the Theatre. As soon as we got there, we realized on how much we’ve missed out on. The crowd were noisy as the officiators were holding games and giving out prizes. It was fun just by seeing it. Too bad we also missed out on the plenary sessions. But, oh well!
Finally, we were called to go up front as our names were called one by one. It was very heart-warming how those from our department cheered out for us, showing how proud they were of us, and as well as the contest officiators, saying that they were pretty amazed and glad that we took the courage to join the competition, describing how hard we tried to work on the problems. =D
Yay! I got some freebies. CD’s, tumbler, mug (perfect for my coffee-addictus personality, haha!), tshirt, and a travel bag. (I sure got a lot of freebies that day! LoLz, not to mention those from PCWorkx, PLDT, and KahelOS.. ahaha). Afterwards, picture taking time!!! First the participants, then everyone else present at the Theatre. Too bad I haven’t got pics myself. Oh well…
To sum it all up, I could say I enjoyed the event 101%. I definitely learned a lot, enjoyed and surely was an unforgettable experience. I still got SFD hangover I think. Hehe. I’m looking forward to the next SFD as well, since my first time attending was just awesome! =D
Digital Scrapbooking is one thing I enjoy the most especially when I am doing nothing on my laptop or just basically letting time pass.
So, for those of you who do not know anything about it, I’ve collected some videos from YouTube which might interest you.
A shoutout to Alyssa, my cousin, who loves learning about PhotoShop more.. =D

So much for the vidz.. More to come next time.. I don’t like the page too cluttered with vidz. Probably will be posting more on where to download freebies.
Hope you guys enjoy the video. Happy DigiScrapbooking everyone!
Apparently, I haven’t checked out my Flickr integration with my WordPress blog. So clicking the pictures won’t show anything, it shows an error. Will fix this as soon as possible.
And, I added and About my Blog page for those of you who keep wondering why the random posts and why I chose Bits N’ Pieces as my blog name. Again, I’m just one hella random person! hahaha! Get used to it.
Scrapbooking is a very common trend nowadays to preserve memories and photos. And now, even Digital Scrapbooking is common, due to the growing technology, and it is a very easy way to share with anyone through the web.
If you are like me who are into Digital Scrapbooking, just starting out but don’t know where to find free downloads, because most Digital Scrapbooking sites you go to require you to pay just for their kits. Well, look no further, you’ve come to the right place. I will provide links where you can download Scrapbook Kits for free. I will also be posting sites where you can download embellishments which you could use to personalize your scrapbooks even more.
It would be really weird if you wouldn’t notice, even just a teeny bit, that the sequel to Transformers, is the hype and the most talked about movie since the trailer came out. Well, even if you aren’t a fan of Transformers, somehow, you get word of it somewhere on the streets. If you don’t, you most probably are deaf or just don’t care about what’s happening around you so much. But hey, admit it, you’ve heard the word “Transformers” somewhere, out there (Isn’t this a song? Haha).
Anyway, I sure am one of those who want to see the sequel to the first Transformers movie. I’ve been into Transformers ever since I was young. Well, I really don’t watch the “new and improved” series of Transformers kids watch nowadays. I still like the “old-school” cartoon, since it was what we used to watch back then. But, despite loving Barbie, Doll Houses, and all those girly toys, I still was into Transformers. It’s one of the movies I grew up watching, alongside GI Joe (there is a movie of this coming out soon too!! Excited!!), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he like (I grew up with brothers and guy cousins, so I was more into boy cartoons back then). Although I don’t remember any of the episodes since all I care about is the “transforming” from vehicles to robots. Back then, it was already amazing to see such ideas about technology. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if Transformers is still a favorite of, not only children, but also adults who knew about the first Transformers. Of course, you would want to see how technology nowadays come up with an idea to make the show more “realistic”. And that what amazed me A LOT!!
Seeing the first Transformers movie sure kept my mouth hanging open throughout the movie. They sure did a very good job in animating Transformers in a very realistic manner. So, it was a very good idea to come up with a sequel to the movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (did not mention this earlier.. haha). I’ve only seen the trailers, and as soon as it ended, I was all giddy and just can’t wait for the release date of the movie. Well, at least it ain’t just me who’s talking about it much. A whole lot of people I pass by everyday are talking about the said movie.
Anyway, to those who don’t have any idea what the second movie is about, here is a synopsis I got from IMDB:
The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron’s dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.
Now, isn’t that interesting? Megatron is revenging!!! Although I hate it, but, it just makes me go, “Megatron is back???!!! WTF?!” and after a while, I’d go, “Well, this is really going to be interesting! I wanna go see it really bad!!!” So, have you felt the same as I do? Haha.
The character I’m most excited to see is, believe it or not, Bumblebee!!! He’s just so darn cute, with his doors as his little wings on the back. Haha. I know a lot can’t wait to see, *ehem*, the hot Megan Fox, but I love Bumblebee out of all characters, despite him being a robot. Yeah, I always get comments like, “Marielle has a crush on Bumblebee!”, and I say, “Yeah, I weirdly do!” Hahaha. Oh well, I don’t care. Haha. (Oh, and according to rumors, Shia and Megan are dating! Sorry to burst your bubble guys! Hehe. Lucky Shia!)
Okay, enough has been said about the “crush” thing! The director of the movie is Michael Bay, which the first movie he directed as well. Shia stars as Sam Witwickity, and Megan as Mikaela Banes. All I read was the summary or plot though. I don’t want to go spoiling the excitement by reading the detailed plots. It would just ruin the fun!! Hehe
So, anyway, see ya’ll at the cinemas! I’m sure a lot would be rushing to have a watch on the most awaited movie.
